Provisional issues of the Independent State of Croatia


The first provisional issues for the Independent State of Croatia were issued 6 days after the invasion of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia by the Axis powers in 1941 and 5 days before an an armistice was signed.

Provisional issues consisted of overprinted stamps of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. These stamps were valid until February 15th, 1943, although the whole stock was used by the mid of 1942.

List of varieties


21 April 1941. The second provisional issue. King Peter II overprinted with inscription NEZAVISNA DRŽAVA HRVATSKA and coat of arms in black color.

Stamps were rinted in sheets of 100 (10 x 10) and overprinted in letterpress by Zemaljska tiskara in Zagreb using two forms. Overprinting started on 19th of April and lasted for two weeks. Overprint was designed by Radoslav Horvat and produced by Božidar Kocmut.
