Provisional issue for the city of Rijeka (Fiume)
Upon order of the Military Command of the City of Rijeka, the stamps found in the Postal Directorate depot were to be overprinted with date 3-V-1945, the day Yugoslav troops entered the city, and new values.
Stamps of the Italian Social Republic on watermarked paper belong to the first Monumenti distrutti issue printed in Rome and Novara. Stamps without overprint belong to the second issue. There’s no differentiation between printings in documents related to overprinting but a very small number of 75 centesimi stamp without watermark was used.
The stamps were overprinted in letterpress in black color and issued on 26 July 1945. They were in use in wider area of Zone B (former Italian postal directorates) until early Spring of 1946.
