Postal tax stamps
Postal tax stamps serve as a means to collect contributions for the benefit of charities or to help finance projects of general public interest.
- Until 1947, contributions were collected by means of semi-postal stamps that were in circulation only for a limited time period.
- In 1947 this practice was abandoned and the concept of a postal tax stamps introduced. Until 1963 they were issued both as FRANCO (paid by the sender) and PORTO (paid by the recipient).
- The true landmark in issuing postal tax stamps was in 1976, when changes in jurisdiction decentralized collecting of charity contributions and transferred it to the local level of individual Yugoslav republics.
