Independent State of Croatia:
varieties on postage stamps with an effigy of dr. Ante Pavelić

The postage stamps depicting Ante Pavelić, the head of the Independent State of Croatia, were designed by Karl Seizinger. His initials, K. S., appear below the frame on each stamp.
The issue was printed by lithography at the Državna tiskara (State Printing Office) in Zagreb. A press sheet consisted of four panes, each containing 100 stamps arranged in a 10 × 10 layout. The panes were numbered from 1 to 4.
The stamps of this issue are found in three different heights. The reason for this variation remains unknown.
Paper
Contemporary specialists noted variations in paper thickness, ranging from 0.05 mm to 0.08 mm. According to Ercegović (1995: 346), these differences are incidental and result from normal variations between production batches. However, stamps printed on thicker paper are more common.
Perforation
Six different perforations were used for this issue: one comb perforation (14) and five different line perforations. Details are provided in the table below:

Imperforate examples are known for all denominations, as well as stamps with partially missing, double, or blind perforations. Other incidental varieties include small colourless spots and unprinted areas. Offset varieties are also known.
