Slovenia: Types and Varieties of Postage Stamps

16 June 1991. Independence of Slovenia. Printed in offset in sheets of 25 stamps. Perforation 10½.

The stamp was issued at a time when Slovenia had not yet been internationally recognized as a sovereign state. As Slovenia was not a member of the UPU, the stamp was temporarily withdrawn from circulation until 8 October 1991.

Coat of arms, the first definitive issue

Stamps were issued on 26 December 1991 and were valid until 31 December 1997. The stamps bear the Slovenian coat of arms and the date 26.12.1991 at the bottom right. Printed in offset in sheets of 25 stamps.

Coat of arms, the second and the third definitive issues

The second definitive issue was put into circulation between 12 and 13 February 1992. The design remained unchanged; however, this time the year mark “1992” was printed in the bottom right corner. The third issue was printed between 6 and 16 March 1992. Both issues were printed by offset in sheets of 50 stamps and remained valid until 31 December 1997.

Numerous constant varieties occur on different denominations in both issues; they are therefore presented together.
