Type II
Type I (London printing):

  • pearls above the top inscription elaborate,
  • vertical shading lines under top country name thin,
  • well visible diagonal shading lines on sails,
  • waves in water thin, shaded below the junk.

Values of Type I: ½c., 1c., 2c., 3c., 4c., 5c., 6c., 7c., 8c., 10c.

Type II (the first Peking printing):

  • pearls above the top inscription elaborate,
  • vertical shading lines under top country name thicker,
  • diagonal shading lines on sails barely visible,
  • waves in water thicker,
  • wave under the junk (above letter H in CHINA) broken.

Values of Type II: ½c., 1c., 1½ 2c., 3c., 4c., 5c., 6c., 7c., 8c., 10c.

Type III (the second Peking printing 1923/26):

  • pearls above the top inscription flat (circles)
  • no vertical shading lines under top country name.

Values of Type III: ½c., 1c., 1½ 2c., 3c., 4c., 5c., 6c., 7c., 8c., 10c.

Type I (London printing):

  • front heat brim nearly straight,
  • farmer’s left foot touches shadow in front,
  • sickle not outlined,
  • farmer’s shoe on the left foot with detached heel.

Values of Type I: 15c., 16c., 20c., 30c., 50c.

Type II (the first Peking printing):

  • farmer’s foot does not touch the shadow,
  • sickle clearly outlined.

Values of Type II: 13c., 15c., 16c., 20c., 30c., 50c.

Type III (the second Peking printing 1923/26):

  • rows of pearls below Chinese characters,
  • background of the side panels horizontally and vertically engraved,
  • the temple is strongly shaded and has a door,

Values of Type III: 13c., 15c., 16c., 20c., 30c., 50c.

Type II: January, Central Trust Shanghai printing, line engraving, perf. line 12½ 13, 14, no gum:

  • horizontal lines in the background,
  • the second horizontal line from the bottom if the second Chinese character not touching the vertical line,
  • small T at left of necktie.

Values of Type II: $10, $20.

Type III: March, Dah Tung Book Co. printing, lithography, perf. comb 12½, no gum:

  • horizontal and diagonal lines in the background,
  • vertical line of the collar shorter, not touching the top of the collar.

Values of Type III: $50, $100, $200, $500, $1000, $2000, $5000, $10000, $20000, $50000, $80000, $100000.

Type IV: April, Hua Nan printing., lithography, perf. comb 12½, no gum:

  • horizontal and diagonal lines in the background,
  • vertical line of the collar stretching from top to bottom.

Values of Type IV: $50, $1000, $2000, $5000, $10000, $20000, $50000, $200000, $500000.

Type V: June, Hua Nan printing., lithography, perf. comb 12½-13, no gum:

  • decimal values omitted (zeros).

Values of Type V: 1c., 2c., 4c., 10c., 16c., 20c., 50c., 100c., 500c.

Type III: Central Trust Shanghai printing, lithography, perf. comb 12½, line 13, 14, no gum:

  • only the drop-shaped element in the lower right corner.

Values of Type III : 50c. on $20, $1 on $15, $5 on $500, $10 on $30, $15 on $20, $25 on $20, $200 on $500, $500 on $15.

Type IV: Chung Ming Co. printing, lithography, irregular perforation, no gum:

  • shading in form of horizontal lines in the lower right corner.

Values of Type IV: $3 on $50, $50 on $50, $100 on $100.

Type V: Dah Tung Book Co. printing, lithography, perf. line 12½, 14, no gum:

  • inner left frame below foliate ornament straight.

Values of Type V: $50 on $300, $1000 on $100.

Type VI: Dah Yeh Printing Co. Shanghai printing, lithography, perf. line 14, no gum:

  • a bulge on inner left frame below foliate ornament.

Values of Type VI: $50 on $300, $1000 on $100, $2000 on $300.

Type IX: several printing offices, line engraving and lithography, perf. line 14, no gum:

  • surcharge in silver dollars.

Values of Type IX: 1c. on $5000, 4c. on $100, 4c. on $3000, 10c. on $50, 10c. on $1000, 20c. on $1000, 50c. on $30, 50c. on $50, $1 on $50.
