Serbian Occupation of Banat: Varieties of Postage Stamps

Serbian troops occupied the territories of Banat and Bačka between 1 May and 20 August 1919. The postal directorate in Temesvár (present day Timișoara) received an order from occupying forces to overprint stamps with appropriate overprint. As the postal tariffs went up at that time, the order was carried out in a way that the stamps were overprinted with new values. Overprinting during the Serbian occupation took place twice so some philatelists refer to them as “the first Timișoara” and “the second Timișoara” issues.
